Hunting is permitted. (State forest falls within DEC Region 4, WMU 4G) Unlike other state Forests, Burnt-Rossman Hills and Mallet Pond State Forests are not all adjacent parcels of land. There are several posted (private) parcels scattered throughout. If your mindful of this, and the fact that many other locals hunt in this area you'll be okay. Reccomended you check out the maps and brochures for each state forest from the NY DEC website, it is very useful.
Yes I can hunt not sure when the season start but there are rule for hunting in this area best bet would be to ask Dec
