Storms. It will be replaced.
A series of northeasters this winter took it apart.
High water during one of the last Nor'easters tore it up. Also damaged other parts of the beach.
Nor'easters took the base of the bridge. The water covered the bridge and srreet and up to the dunes. Literally there was no beach for hours around high tide.
