I've been to both. Toledo Zoo is more compact, less walking between each exhibit. The aquarium alone is worth the admission. They have a fabulous polar bear exhibit, and their elephants, hippos, & tigers are fun to see. Unfortunately, they no longer have lions, which Detroit DOES still have (though they can be hard to see). The animals are typically easier to view at Toledo versus Detroit. Detroit zoo, as many have pointed out, does indeed have more exhibits, including Lion's, monkeys, reptile & amphibian houses, & much more; I haven't sent it yet but I've heard their new penguin exhibit is fantastic. However, it is a LOOOONNNG WALK & it is not flat, like Toledo. So, if you have impatient littles, Detroit may not be the zoo for you. If you are looking for somewhere to walk and get some physical activity while enjoying the animals around you, Detroit is perfect. You can go entirely through the Toledo Zoo in about 2 hours, you need at least 3-4 to walk the entirety of the Detroit zoo.
Both are excellent zoos. If seeing elephants is important to you, realize Detroit no longer has any. Detroit's is larger and has more to see. Also, Detroit's is again top-rate... after a few years of being in kinda tough shape.
I like the Detroit Zoo because it's a good place to spend time with your family and friends. My daughter swear up and down she loves the Toledo Zoo better. I'm sure if you're taking your little ones to the zoo it doesn't matter whether it's in Detroit or Toledo they're going to have a good time riding the train and looking at the animals and all the different exhibits that they have at the zoo.
Depends on what you want to see and how long you want to be there. Toledo for a quick trip and elephants Detroit for a longer outing no elephants or aquarium. But more exhibits.
I like toledo zoo more but both are good to go .. But its better to go when is not that cold
I have always heard the Toledo zoo is better hands down. Although I've never been.
