There are now almost 100 auto burglaries per day. Last year the State reduced this crime from a felony to a misdemeanor and there is zero effort to catch these thieves. Probably a majority of the perpetrators are "homeless" drug addicts and local government doesn't care.
Sorry. Believe me when I say not all San Franciscans like the way our city is going. Contacting the police or city government is probably useless, but I'd complain to the Ballet and the PAC directly. Maybe if you tell them that it's so nice to come to SF that you'll stay home next time, they'll talk to City Hall.
Sorry this happened. The best option is to remove EVERYTHING from your car. Even a jacket on the floor in the back seat can appear enticing to thieves, as they think it might be covering something of value. Or, they're desperate enough to just need a jacket. I've heard about people intentionally leaving their windows cracked (weather permitting) with a sign that says go ahead and look around, but don't break the windows. The issue is that thieves often want in the trunk of an otherwise empty car, so they break the window in order to pop the trunk. It's sad that people feel the need to choose this option. I would definitely recommend calling the city and congresspeople. I have them all saved in my phone. They're required to track these types of complaints and eventually respond, especially when the issue starts to impact tourist/cultural events, like the theater shows. Sorry again to hear it and hope the damage wasn't too bad!
Sorry to hear about the break in on your car... What did SFPD say about the camera surveillance in the area? We use the SF Theater Arts Garage when we are going to that area. It's usually guarded by cameras and people.
You might try the underground parking under the green in civic center plaza. Sorry that happened to your car.
I have no idea I would think that might be a city issue.
