1) Because of the Bergen County blue laws which restrict retail activity on Sunday. 2) Actually, it's kind of awesome because (a) employees know they'll get at least one day off a week (b) it makes life in the area a little nicer.
Not that long ago, all stores were closed on Sunday nationwide and there was no complaining. Americans have been conditioned to buy, buy, buy 7 days a week. We in Bergen County are used to it. I actually look forward to that 24 hour break.
Bergen county has blue law and no retail stores are allowed to be open on Sunday
Everyone said "Blue Laws", but to expand on that, yes, it's stupid from a commerce point of view, but it may help to look at it from the perspective of the residents. It allows them one day a week to be free of the shopping hustle and bustle. Imagine being one of the many of thousands of people who live within 5mins of Routes 4 and 17. The Blue Laws allow them that one day where they can go to church, spend time with family, and just breathe. The Blue Laws mean that non-perishables can't be sold on Sunday, so other things are still open, but the Container Store is not one of them. If you REALLY need to get something from the Container Store, there is one in NYC.
That law in order very Long Time ago guess some new people in the area not used to it yet
