It is very safe to swim in the water however understand it's about 50 degrees Fahrenheit and potentially dangerous if you're not careful.
There aren't any man eating sharks or a riptide. On a nice hot day it's very refreshing. After the initial shock wears off you can swim for as long as you can tolerate it. Nice clean water, usually no surf to speak of.
