There wasnt a great way to check things ahead of time...all i can say is i highly recommend the trip...cab rides were under a hundred and less if i recall correctly. The views were awesome and the trip to rockaway and back took a little under an hour thirty.
There is a small booth operated by a volunteer - maybe you're just calling at the wrong time?
