Covered has a roof but no glass in the windows, but the historic car is old-timey with regular windows. I would choose a different one for each direction.

Others have already shared the difference between the two cars but I just wanted to let you know that you can get your tickets so that you ride one car down in a different car on the way back if you prefer to experience both.

Yes, the Wilson River car is old heavyweight passenger car, where the covered car is basically a gondola with benches and a roof.

The Wilson River car is an historic completely closed car with windows - like a typical enclosed train car. The covered car is topped, but otherwise open. There are also totally open cars with no "cover".

Tou"te riding in a pice of hiatory in the Wilson River car which is kind of cool however we chose the covered open air so yhere was sun protection if needed and we could feel the ocean air. Iy was well worth it, we would plan next tine to stay and explore the Gatibaldi wharf, which looked like it would take a few hours as it's a bit of a hike to get to it from the train stop.

The historic river car is all enclosed with windows and I think padded seats. The covered car is benches with a roof, no glass windows.
