They have free days for Illinois residents. The dates are on the website. It states that you should get your tickets in advance online because there's limited capacity and it's first come first serve. They also participate in the Museum For All program which allows low income families who have a link card to get in for $5 general admission, 4 tickets max. You do have to pay extra for all access and the 4D shows but those are all optional. Everything you need to know is available on their website under special events. I just went on July 3 with the Museum For All program.
We got the City Pass to get several discounts to different attractions.
