Like others have stated, you don't need a reservation, but you'll need to wait in line. If you're a Chicago resident you'll get 50% off tickets (for non-free days of course, $19.95/adult and $14.95/kids). If you end up wanting to get a membership, you can skip all the lines and go straight to the Membership desk (right side of the entrance) and they'll check you in quickly. Have fun!!

No you do not have to make a reservation, when you walk up to the main desk. You let them know that you would like to get a ticket for free admission.
But a reservation saves much time over a weekend day.
