I was given a gift certificate last July (2017). The certificate says expires one year after purchase date. Can the expiration be extended? It was for a lot of money and would hate to have wasted the money.

Definitely talk to Howard! You're only a month past expiration and I can't imagine he wouldn't still honor it.
