Not sure who the rescue group is, just ask an employee. But yes, there are usually a few cats and kittens there for adoption. Twenty years ago I brought whoever the rescue group was, a feral 3 legged cat I found at the beach, and it got adopted from there!
They have cats in the store all of the time, but dogs come on weekends.

Petco hosts events where animal shelters, such as Last Chance Animal Rescue, bring dogs in for customers to meet and possibly adopt. Check their website for upcoming events.
We house Small Miracles cats for adoption in our store. Small Miracles is a local cat and dog rescue we partner with. We also have many other local partnerships including but not limited to Dogs XL, PAWS, K9 Lifesavers etc. Dog adoption events are frequently held on Saturdays and Sundays between 12 and 2.
They usually have cats/kittens in the front right corner of the store. There are fish, rodents, reptiles and birds occasionally. Check their upcoming events for dog adoption fairs that are out front in the sidewalk
