I think the issue for long time Care And Share customers is not that "things are so expensive" but rather that things are significantly MORE expensive than they used to be. The reason for that is that taxes on their building are higher, utilities for those buildings are higher. People need to be paid to upkeep the buildings, plow the parking lot, fix the pavement, replace lights and haul dumpsters full of unusable donations away. (Remember that moth eaten sweater you donated? Or the old table who's leg was chewed up by your dog? Or the wine-stained tablecloth you couldn't get clean but thought maybe "some poor person" wouldn't mind it. Or that comfy recliner that reeked of cat urine? Well, guess what? Care & Share had to pay someone to trash that so called generous donation.) There is no cigar chomping CEO of the Mennonite Mission Committee hiding huge profits in some off-shore bank. However, there are many far away communities very grateful for clean water and food!
Remember that those "profits" are going back into the organization to help those in need. Care and Share sends a LOT of funds to organizations to give aid to those who need it. Just because the prices seem higher (although in my opinion $3.99 for a shirt that looks brand new is an awesome deal) doesn't automatically mean they are making money hand over fist and keeping it. Read information on their website about what they *do* with the money before judging :-)
Wow. I got some clothes at the outlet yesterday. A heavy hoodie, a pair of jeans, a tee-shirt, 3 pair of socks and a pair of shorts for $4.95! Some things are a bargain and some things are not. As an avid thrift shopper, I can honestly say the Care and Share Outlet store is the best deal in the area. If something seems over-priced, wait for the sale day to come around. The thrill is in the hunt and there are plenty of treasures to be found in the Care and Share shops.
There is NOTHING at Care & Share that is too pricey! NOTHING
I'm not sure what you consider expensive?? I do about 90% of my shopping in thrift stores and still find everything [beyond] fractions on the dollar. A Saks 5th Ave button down for $4.95?!? Please and thank you! A queen bedspread for $8.95- damn Skippy! Business is business and costs are always going up. Don't loose sight to the thrift store charging more but how much of a discount you are already getting!
Some places, like 2nd Ave., purchase their goods in bulk from donation places I believe. I literally saw a little wicker basket brand new with tag that said 5.99. 2md ave. had it marked to sell for 5.99. Why would I buy it at your store when i can go to an actual store and buy one that i can them purchase a match to ? Mostthrift stores are for profit now, not for the community.
People are missing the fact that thrift stores donate their profits two causes. Example Liberty helps with prison ministry
Maybe they should

Do you keep the things that are dropping off at your location or are they sent out to other stores
