Basically just emissions
No e card as proof of insurance... And tgey check for lights on dash.. They dont care if your winshield is cracked..
They check safety-like breaks & suspension and make recommendations.
They do take e-cards as proof of insurance. That is now acceptable in NJ. They test for emissions only to the best of my knowledge. Once a car is 25 yrs old, the state no longer requires regular inspection. You get a special sticker for exemptions.
