My father's car failed inspection. He was told to perform a "drive cycle," which would "reset" the OBD. The report also says "Primary Emission Test Performed: OBD - Fail." Once the "reset" occurs, would the emission test FAIL change to READY?

As a mechanic for many years all cars drive cycles are different depending on year make and model. Good rule of thumb is to drive the car for a week before trying to get it reinspected

Depending on vehicle resetting takes 50+ miles of driving and it needs to be restarted. Tell him just drive it a few days and go back.
