I called Shari nearly two years ago today, took the night class with instructor Anthony. I had a wonderful chance to be a t/a for the day class with instructor Merritt, and got hired out of school in under six months. I’m happily working as a software engineer remotely and could not have done it without the platform PDX code guild provides. Thanks guys.

PDX Code Guild was one of the best decisions I made in my career and I highly recommend this to any serious self-starter considering a career change. I had been looking at a few other boot camps in New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Portland but every single other one just felt like a degree factory. What truly sets PDX Code Guild apart from other bootcamps is the people and community. Where other bootcamps think there tech companies and interview you as quickly as possible. Sheri, the founder, took the time to answer any questions I had about the boot camp and even helped me with questions about moving to Portland. I was a sales opportunity for other bootcamps - Sheri took the time to interview me and see if PDX Code Guild would be a good fit for me. It is so clear that Sheri acts as a steward for the community keeping the good in and the bad out. There’s an old adage, “You are who you surround yourself with.” It was so motivating to be surrounded by other people who cared about learning as much as I did. And then towards the end of the bootcamp and after graduation the community was instrumental in finding work. After all companies are just collectives of people. Our class met a recruiter from a pretty big tech firm, Smarsh. Those conversations with that recruiter gave me a clear idea of how to stand out when looking for a job. My instructor was an Apple alum - his guidance was fundamental to my success. There are so many people willing to help at PDX Code Guild both during and after graduation. Instead of randomly sending emails with my resume and applying to job boards, I was talking to industry programmers, recruiters, and managers. Their feedback and advice was what helped me land that initial job. You can learn to program a hundred different ways - but I would recommend PDX Code Guild because of the connections you make there. That is so undervalued in so many other bootcamps. Where other bootcamps place emphasis on their curriculum. PDX Code Guild places an emphasis on learning. The skills I learned at PDX Code Guild helped me to become self-sufficient. If I wanted to run through tutorials, I could do that with a quick google search. PDX Code Guild gave me the foundations to read through documentation, other resources, and other code to actually teach myself a lot. Being a developer requires continuous learning - if any bootcamp promises they will teach you everything, it’s just a marketing lie. PDX Code Guild Teaches you enough to be job ready and gives you the tools to further your own career. After PDX Code Guild I went on to do work for a yC Startup, Salesforce, Comcast, Oracle, etc. Almost 6 years later PDX Code Guild is still there to support me when I need it and I still check in with the community helping out where I can even though I don’t live in Portland anymore.

I took programming 101 & 102 and they both were great. It was very informative and I went form knowing nothing about programming to being fully prepared for the Bootcamp in the span of two weeks. The teacher made sure all questions were answered before moving on and was incredibly helpful. I would definitely recommend.

Just finished up with the Intro to Programming 101 class. To be honest I signed up with no prior experience in coding and was a little worried that I would not do well. I was wrong! The instructor and 2 assistants really had an awesome learning environment for beginners and offered to help in anyway, shape or form throughout the week. I am truly surprised that I passed and look forward to Programming 102 next week! Shout out to Sheri (Fearless Owner) for setting me up for the Intro classes and plan on attending the boot camp in June 2020.

Why did you expel me for bringing to your attention that one of your instructors failed to provide adequate instruction at study hall, twice! My family relied on this VA funded program and I am wondering who else have been discarded...

Thank you for publishing that you were expelled. This allows me to answer you here. As you know, you were expelled for bullying a member of our community twice, once after receiving a warning. At PDX Code Guild, we take the code of conduct seriously, especially bullying. Bullying affects everyone around. It stifles their confidence in speaking up, their ability to learn and makes them afraid to contribute.
