The slot canyon was a novel experience for me so I was very happy to take this trail. The actual slot canyon part is only about 10 minutes long but then you can continue along with the trail alongside the salt marsh. The trails aren't very busy so it's quiet (minus the highway). Definitely recommend to at least go once to check out the slot canyons.

This little canyon was so much fun! We took our 3 and 5 year olds and didn't have any issues. I wish we would have known there were 2 ways to enter. We went in the back way, which was more walking and good size hills. Nonetheless we had a great time!

This nice trail Includes short slot canyon with stairs in steep section. Nice view of Elijo Lagoon. Several other trails to enjoy as well. Can circumnavigate lagoon if you choose the trail on the left from the street. Annie's and others are the trail on the right. Many dogs enjoying it too. Easily accessible off the 5 fwy.

A pretty short hike through a slot canyon. The parking area is at the end of the road in a neighborhood. Very limited parking! The hike up to the slots was pretty but it's next to the freeway, so it kind of ruins the scenery, but not terribly. You'll still enjoy this little walk in nature. The actual slot canyon section is really short, it's only a small portion of the hike, the rest of the hike is out in the open on a pretty and very well marked trail. It does get really narrow once you're in the slots and there's one section where there's a ladder. It's really fun and easy to get through. I don't recommend putting your dog through that, unless you have a small doggy and you can carry them up. But, it's up to you. It is fun for the whole family, kids can easily do this hike. I did it on my way out of San Diego. It's right off the freeway so it was well worth the stop. Highly recommend.

Too tough for a dog to climb Take yr dog but walk around the canyon to the beach
Path leading up to Annie's Canyon Trail is dog friendly but signs say NO DOGS at Annie's Canyon Trail entrance.
Absolutely, you can bring your cat as well, as long as you keep it on a leash.
I didn't see (or feel) any, but we were there in the middle of the day. There may be some in the evening.
Yeah, there is quite a few people with dogs there. But once you get to a certain point, a dog wouldn't make it past.
About 0.6 miles according to all trails. Very quick and easy walk.
Thank you Jane!!!
Not up the hill, but there are other trails at the bottom closeby the lagoon.
Yes I think they would all enjoy it a lot. There is one section with a ladder that the younger ones may need supervision.
public transportation + walking
It wasn't last weekend.
Four weeks back when I visited, it was open. But the section towards the Canyon is closed
Yes, dogs are allowed on leash, but avoid taking them on the canyon trail, because there is a ladder at the end and would be hard to carry them up. Also the canyon trail is very narrow and one way only, so you can't turn around.
About 15 minutes to the canyon and another 15 to make the canyon loop. You can get through it quicker if you are not stopping to take any pictures
You want to be out of there by dusk, so arrive an hour before sundown and you're good.
Technically dogs are not allowed in the canyon. There is hand stairs you have to climb up. But dogs can go on the other trail to left.
Type in Annie's canyon trailhead and it will bring you the back roads
I took my 3+ year old grandson and he loved it. In fact, we went 2 days in a row. Be sure to take water and snacks if you are taking kids.
I was visiting my daughter in SD and she did the driving. We parked on a residential street in Solano Beach or Solano Hills.
Walking... about an hour out and back to Rios ave, considering stops for pictures and maybe waiting for others to go through the trail and up the stairs/ladder. Light jog/trail running , 30-40 minutes should do it.
