Yeah, there is quite a few people with dogs there. But once you get to a certain point, a dog wouldn't make it past.
You can Take the trail but avoid the canyon (since some spots where its it's very narrow, plus a ladder at the end), to do this, take the left at the split and hike with the dog to the top of the trail and wait for your friends there.
