The iconic Hawthorne bridge that signifies you are definitely in Portland, OR. A lot of views just driving through the city and over the bridge. Tons of people out riding their bikes or even walking. Seems like the perfect location to take some amazing scenic photos or even hold your own mini photo shoot.

I ran on Hawthorne bridge often (mostly eastward) and I like it. The shoulders for pedestrians and bikes are wide and the extension on the east side takes you all the way to Grand Ave so you skip the industrial / warehouse part. I really like the view looking back at downtown Portland, especially before sunrise, the city looks so calm, waiting for a brand new day to start.

Last year the bridge test lift happened during the portland to coast walk. It was about 3:46 in the morning on Friday, August 24, 2018. How many minutes would that take. It was a test so there were no boats passsing underneath.

It shouldn't take too long. That's why they do it at night to plan around traffic.

How fast does the bridge lift?

It's not just about how fast the bridge will lift & lower, but it can also lift to several different heights depending on how tall the vessel passing underneath. Your wait time will also depend on the size & speed of the passing vessel.
