Was it a controlled intersection? If the driver pulling into the intersection had a stop sign, but the crossing traffic didn't the driver pulling out could be at fault. Witnesses are helpful if they're unrelated to the accident. If the witness is somehow related to one of the people involved (friend or otherwise) their testimony isn't considered due to bias.
That depends on how they were damaged. Homeowners insurance typically covers things that are "sudden and accidental". If the floor wears out over time, or there was a slow leak that caused rot, or even insect damage - there wouldn't be coverage. If a dishwasher pipe burst and water poured out onto the floor causing it to sag or fall through there would be coverage. Insurance contracts are very complex. If you have a specific issue it makes sense to call your agent before calling the insurance company to get an idea on coverage.
