On Monday, June 18th, this transfer station (i.e. North) was closed due to a power line that was down across the road. I looked at the website at 9 AM to see if it was open, and the website said it was open from 8-5 this day. Just a few blocks from the site, I was stopped and informed by an employee that it was closed. Instead I had to travel 35 minutes south to the southern Metro Transfer station along with many other frustrated people looking for a place to unload Hazmat and trash. It was a rare circumstance, but why can't they have a real-time website that warns people when the dump is closed for the day?

Try calling Metro's Recycling Information Center: 503-234-3000
Most paper receipts are not recyclable. This is because they're printed on thermal paper, which contains a chemical called bisphenol-A (or sometimes bisphenol S) that cannot be easily removed from the paper during the recycling process. From the Treehugger website.
Most grocery stores have bins where you can return plastic bags for recycling. Just ask your local grocery store! :)
Metro Paint is a location for purchasing compost bins
