Clearly understaffed w/inadequate and inconsistent information and long wait times. What one DRS employee told me would be completed "by the end of the next week," another is saying could take up to 90 days. And they don't have any details to share of why a simple request could take so long to process.

Lots of incorrect information provided by multiple workers. Agency is not consistent with its answers. Causes a lot of unnecessary stress.

I've been retired for 15 years plus. Never had an issue with any requests I've made. Staff have been nice. Quick in and out. Professional both in person and by telephone. Wheelchair accessible and handicapped parking.

Tried to take care of some business over the phone, for my 92 yo legally blind mother, who just had hip replacement surgery. Absolutely no help from these folks whatsoever. Not trying to change anything in her deposit, merely an address change, as we had to move her to assisted living. I also tried to set up online access, to no avail. It seems the only recourse is to make an appointment and try to get her to a DRS office in a wheelchair. I don't have great hope for their ability to assist me when I retire from state service in a few years.

If you have internet a form should be online. The same just happened to me, so I went into directly into their office and submitted the paperwork to expedite.
I am a Google guide, and not a DRS employee, but since I use to work for SOW, I can tell you they're available on the DRS website now. You will need to make an account and then you can print it. If you decide to wait until mailed, I believe they're disbursed January 31st.
Hi Steve, I'm not aware of any discount when it comes to Medicare due to being a state employee. Your Medicare premium is based off of your annual income. You can find those numbers here. https://www.medicare.gov/your-medicare-costs/medicare-costs-at-a-glance
Hi Greg, You should be able to print one out. I work mainly with educators and they can do this via Skyward.
Checkout the DRS website, as they have that information. I am unable to answer because if you are an active state employee you get paid 2 times per month. If your retired, you get paid the last day of each monthly.
Direct deposit forms are located on their website. Fastest way to make the change is to go the DRS in person.
I take it you want to decrease your contribution to Deferred Comp?? If yes, you can 1) call them and they will walk you through it, 2) have them send you the proper form, 3) they can tell you on the DRS website to locate the proper form 4) go direct to their office and have a face to face.
I needed to deliver some paperwork. The building is closed due to COVID-19. Went to the delivery door (UPS, etc.) in back, knocked on the door and someone was able to take my paperwork. I left happy
Best bet would be to call DRS at 800-547-6657 and ask that question.
I would suggest as this building is like most state buildings mostly closed going on line and calling.
Call 1 800 547 6657 and ask to be connected to the Disability Unit. They are very helpful and nice!
Hi Sharon, You get paid the last business day of each month. You can view the full payment schedule here: https://www.drs.wa.gov/publications/retiree/benefitpaymentschedule.htm
Hi Robin, I am assuming you are talking about the plan 3 investment portion. The money would be transferred to your beneficiaries. They would then be responsible to paying taxes on that money every year. Under 2020 law any non spouse who inherts money has only 10 years to pay all of the taxes due. Your pension would stop unless you took the survivorship option in which case your spouse would get a portion of your pension. Hope that helps
Contact your payroll and fill out a new W-4. You could also just save more into a retirement account to reduce your tax liability. Given taxes are the lowest they have ever been and probably ever will be in our lifetimes paying at these rates isn't too bad.
Hi Mike, Not that I'm aware of. Typically service credits are earned by being on a contract with DRS and working a certain number of hours each month.
Hi Carole, If you are referring to the plan 3 investment acct then you have no access to it until you separate service. It's pretty black and white. These accounts don't have loans, hardship options and don't care how old you are.
Hi Keith, You can use the calculator on Drs. It is specific to what pension plan you are on (plan 1,2 or 3) and the classification of your employment. Pers ( public employee) trs ( teacher) etc.
Hi Wendy, Not sure if your still working or not or if you bought your condo yet. You can't use your state retirement savings until you separate service. Also you would have to pay taxes on every dollar you take out and can potentially jump up a tax bracket. to me it doesn't make sense to pay 12-24% in taxes for a down payment. If you have money in a 403b you can loan the money and pay it back to avoid the taxes or you can use money from somewhere else.
I'm sorry for your loss. If it's health insurance you contact the Health Care Authority or whoever manages health insurance for where you work. For beneficiaries on your pension, if you are retired and it is a survivor beneficiary, contact DRS. A retirement specialist can help. Otherwise, you can change beneficiary in your online account or use the beneficiary designation form available on the website. They can mail or email one as well.
If you retired under 2008 ERF, with over 30 years, you can't work until 65 without suspending benefit. If you retired with less than 30 years, you can work 867 hours Jan to Dec. in retirement eligible position. If not retirement eligible position, no limit.
You can work up to 867 hrs per calendar year ( Jan - Dec) without suspending your benefit.

For your retirement, sure.
Hi Loretta, No need to do anything to stay on PEBB. My clients love it as well!
Contact the social security department
You would need to contact them directly as it depends upon what PERS plan you have.
Call DRS or hop on their website with your question, as I am a Google guide not a DRS employee. Sorry
You need to contact DRS directly for that answer. I am a Google Guide and not a DRS employee, so I have nothing to do with with 1099-Rs and Box 13.
I would like to know is DRSFOR EVERYONE TO USE IM LOOKING INTO MY PRIVATE RETIREMENT BUT REALLY READING THE CONS AND PROS IM DESPERATE FOR FUNDS
