As a fellow psychologist and colleague, I can offer the highest recommendation for Dr. Jennifer Chain and her practice, Thrive For The People. I trained with Dr. Chain as an intern and post-doctoral psychologist. During these two years, I had many opportunities to observe her work directly and learn about her therapeutic style through consultation. Dr. Chain has a warm, authentic, and composed style that I find very calming and engaging. She has extensive expertise working with attachment and cultivating healthy relationships. She is passionate about understanding the ways in which cultural identities shape our psychological experiences and broader systemic issues. Although I have not been a client of Dr. Chain's, I have shared clients with her, and have always heard very positive feedback about client experiences. I would be happy to refer a former client or personal acquaintance to Dr. Chain's care.

Throughout the years that I have known and worked with Dr. Chain as a fellow psychologist, I have greatly respected her clinical acumen, her exceptional commitment to offering the highest quality clinical care, and her integrity and authenticity within both professional and personal realms. Her practice, Thrive for the People, is comprised of a team of highly skilled individual and couples therapists, who align with the values that Thrive for the People stands for. I recommend without hesitation Dr. Chain and her excellent team of clinicians of Thrive for the People.

Jenni is a grounded, passionate, and deeply empathetic therapist. Her demeanor is totally disarming yet she will challenge you to dig into the work through questions, challenges and obstacles on your path towards healing. Her team is brilliant, with an innate ability to get to the heart of the matter and really understand what is needed and how to support. I can always trust anyone I send their way and have thoroughly enjoyed coordinating care with her team. I highly recommend this practice to anyone looking to deepen their self-understanding and relationships.

Here are Thrive for the People, we pride ourselves on making great matches between clients and therapists. We believe that the power of the therapeutic relationship is crucial to how therapy work. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all and not all therapists are alike. Each therapist has their own unique background, identity, training, expertise, personality, and approach to therapy. Finding the right match is the first step in your therapy journey and we are here to make that process as easy as possible. When you schedule a 15-minute phone consultation, we will listen carefully to what has helped you in the past and what you are looking for now. We will take into consideration your needs and preferences as well as the personality, specialty, and background of our therapists. We will provide a thoughtful match that maximizes the chance that the therapist you are matched with is going to be a great fit for you and can help you.
Depending on the time of your scheduled phone consultation, you may be talking with either our Client Care Coordinator, Tori Belanger, or one of our therapists.
Therapy outcomes depends on a number of factors: The match between you and your therapist Your therapist's expertise in the areas that you want to work on You and your therapist's ability to establish a trusting and growth-inducing relationship Your readiness to change your patterns, life circumstances, relationships, and belief systems Your motivation and commitment to therapy Although we cannot guarantee outcomes, you may see the following gains and growth after completing therapy: From feeling lost to feeling confident of who you are and your purpose and meaning in life From feeling alone to feeling deeply connected with and supported by those around you From feeling confused to having clear insight into how this pattern came to be and what you can do to change From feeling exhausted all the time to creating a healthy routine of nourishing and caring for yourself From feeling broken to finding the wholeness within you From survival mode to meeting your highest potential
Our therapists prefer meeting with new clients on a weekly basis for the first two months to establish a strong working relationship and to get the momentum going. Some clients start with twice-a-week sessions if they are in distress or want to see results faster. After two months, you can talk with your therapist about whether you want to decrease the frequency of treatment.
The length of treatment depends on your concerns and how deep you want the change to occur. Your work with your therapist is unique to you. Research shows that by the 10th session, most people report feeling better. Some clients stop therapy after they began to notice improvements in their symptoms. Some clients decide to continue therapy even after they are feeling better to dive into deeper and older issues and to prevent relapse in the future. The deeper and more transformative work takes more time but clients also report longer-lasting change.
We use an electronic health record system called Simple Practice, which is also our online therapy platform. Once you are matched with a therapist, we will create a client portal for you in Simple Practice where you will access your online sessions. There is a Simple Practice app that you can download onto your phone or tablet to access your sessions. You will receive a reminder email for your appointments that also contains the link to your session.
It depends. Here in the United States, each state has different laws and regulations regarding whether a therapist outside of that state can provide online therapy to a client who is traveling to or living in that state. In other countries, the laws and regulations also vary regarding whether a licensed therapist in the U.S. can provide online therapy to a client traveling to or living in that country. If you are interested in working with one of our Washington State licensed therapists while you are traveling or if you live outside of Washington part-time or full-time, please let us know. We will do the research into whether online therapy across state lines or internationally will be allowed depending on your location.
Yes, we offer online therapy at this time due to the pandemic and have plans to return to a combination of online and in-person care in the near future.
Both paid and free street parking are available near our office.
We are conveniently located in the Ballard neighborhood at 5306 Ballard Ave NW, Suite 212, Seattle, WA 98107.
Our therapists work Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. Some have early morning appointments at 8:00 am and some have evening appointments at 5:45 pm. We are not available on the weekends. If you have a specific time in mind or schedule limitations, please contact us to see if we can accommodate your schedule. You can schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation for us to learn more about your needs and see if one of our therapists can meet during the times that work best for you.
Our therapists have a variety of specialties including depression, anxiety, stress, burnout, eating disorders, addiction, trauma, grief and loss, perinatal mental health, couples therapy, individual therapy for relationship concerns, and more. You can learn more about each therapist through and their specialties on our website. If you are unsure whether they can treat your specific concern, please schedule a 15-minute phone consultation for us to learn more about you and see if we are a good fit. We want to understand your unique situation and make the best recommendation for a match. If we are not a good match for what you are looking for, we will do the research and provide referrals to other therapists or services who will be a better match for you.
Our therapists specialize in individual and couples therapy. Our therapists have advanced training in a variety of therapy approaches including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectal behavioral therapy (DBT), emotionally focused therapy (EFT), mindfulness-based, relational gestalt, psychodynamic, self-psychology, cognitive processing therapy for PTSD, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and more. Research shows that developing a trusting relationship with your therapist is the most healing and powerful aspect of counseling. The specific intervention and strategies that your therapist use is less important than working with someone whom you trust. You may have personal preferences for types of therapy. If you have a specific approach that worked well for you in the past or you are interested in trying something new, please contact us to see if one of our therapists can provide the type of therapy you are looking for.
Some insurance companies reimburse for couples therapy but some do not. Please contact your insurance company and ask what the out-of-network reimbursement would be for couples therapy.
We accept debit cards, all major credit cards, and health savings accounts (HSA).
We recommend that you contact your insurance company directly and ask them the following questions: Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient psychotherapy? What is my deductible? How much of my deductible have I already met? What is the allowable amount for psychotherapy? What is the percentage of reimbursement for psychotherapy? With this information, you will know whether you have met your deductible for the year and when your benefits will kick in. You will also know how much your insurance company’s “allowable amount” for therapy will be and what percentage of that amount they will cover. For example, if your insurance’s allowable amount is $300 a session and they cover 60% of the allowable amount, then you are responsible for $120 per session out of pocket after your deductible is met. We would be happy to check your insurance benefits and deductible for you during the phone consultation. Please have your insurance card ready during the scheduled call.
As licensed mental health professionals, we are insurance eligible for insurance carriers in Washington State. We are not paneled with any insurance company. Our clients attend therapy on an out-of-network basis or pay for sessions out of pocket. If you would like to use your out-of-network benefits, please contact your insurance company and ask what the out-of-network reimbursement would be for outpatient in-person or online psychotherapy. The specific amount of this reimbursement depends on your plan. For your convenience, we can check your insurance benefit and deductible during our phone consultation. Please have your insurance card ready during the call. We also submit your out-of-network claims for you on a monthly basis. You can track the progress of your claims submission and acceptance by downloading the app Reimbursify.
