Renton police are a joke. Hung up on twice by an officer for "yelling" at the officer meanwhile they do nothing about the fireworks ban

Two years ago I had a verbal altercation with my mother in law, who is mentally handicap. I left for work and recieved a phone call from an officer who had terrible service so I couldn't make out what he said. I called him back that night to be informed that charges might be brought up against me. Since nothing happened I decided not to worry. Fast foward two weeks. I recieved a notice to appear in court pending TWO CHARGES. One for assualt 4th degree and one for interfering with a 911 call. I went to court for a year and had the charges dropped "dismissed without prejudice." Meaning they could be brought against me again. A few problems with this. 1. I listened to tbe 911 call. Clearly the woman is making up different things as she is talking to the dispatcher. Its laughably obvious. 2. The officer showed prejudice due to my history although my last conviction is more than five years old. (Officer Callahan) and refused to take reports from two other witnesses there, both telling him my mother in law is mentally handicap and had thrown the coffee at me while having a temper tantrum. There are also coffee marks on my ceiling that show the direction the coffee was thrown. He did absolute no police work and let his prejudice run away with him. 3. He allowed a mentally handicap woman to lie to him and fabricate an entire story that he then wrote out for her and submitted to the courts. 4. Dismissed without prejudice. Meaning if she were resentful enough she could bring up the charges again and ruin my life. She won't. She has since apologized for lying and we have worked through our issues. She needs real help, like a diagnoses and a care facility. But who really gets real help from the Renton court system. Why rehabilitate when you can simply add more obstacles to people living already difficult lives? When you can let your prejudice jade you into allowing a woman who needed real help to lie to you and punish two people who needed support caring for a mentally handicap woman and faced a situation where they simply became overwhelmed. The court system is an ineffective biased joke. They don't want you to repair your life and make the changes necessary to reenter society. Theyd rathee let their prejudice run away with them and further encumber people who are already struggling. Thanks Officer Callahan. You cost me another job.

I am pretty vocal about supporting law enforcement, in general, so I try to see the good along with the discouragements. The Renton PD aren't exactly your small town, ultra responsive police force, but it isn't the most quaint city either. They do a lot right. My only gripe is that things like noise complaints basically get ignored. In two years, I've called in twice because of my ridiculously disruptive neighbors. As far as I can tell, no one came. Over a few hours after my call - no cops. Meanwhile though, there's always the traffic cop sitting a block down the road on sunset. I know they're just sitting there, raising more money on the side of town that pays all the taxes, but apparently pulling out for 10 minutes to address my call isn't priority. If a citizen picks up the phone and asks for police mediation in a residential area, it makes a huge impression when someone takes that seriously and shows up to work it out. If I have to walk over to a house full of drunks and try to enforce the law myself, and risk retaliation, or who knows what, and then turn around and pay law enforcement for sitting down the block hunting us - that makes a big impression too.

Had my car broken into right in front of my home. Over $1000 worth of items were stolen. Called police as soon as I noticed it. Spoke with Kerkhoff. I was told to file an online report. Ok... how about dusting for prints? Nope. The value isn't high enough for them to care. All he cared about was the address, where I worked, and when I told him the value, he said it was a misdemeanor and not worth their effort. I have since moved out of HIGH CRIME Renton. That was, by far, the worst city I ever lived in since I moved to Washington. What a DUMP and the police are useless.

King county sheriff office handles evictions. Renton PD does not.
