Questions & Answers

i have my kio in a fountain and it is starting to grow algie . what can i do about it will it hurt my fish and what can i use to make it go away

Stop feeding them and they will crop the algae down to carpet but will not make it go away all together if you are talking about algae growing on the walls.

What is the price range? I'm looking for a specific color of koi, but I live over an hour away. Want to be sure the prices are worth the drive.

Our fish start at $19.99. The website has all the details and prices www.hanoverkoifarms.com. We have more fish than your little beak can carry home. BTW you say an hour away? Is that drive time or as the parakeet flies LOL. You will be overwhelmed by the selection of Koi I can assure you.

When doing a weekly 10% water change for an 850 gal pond should we an a chlorine blocker and if so how much. Thanks

Charlotte Buglisi | Nov 7, 2019
Hanover Koi Farms | Nov 7, 2019

If your new/source water has chlorine you need to use a dechlorinator. We use and sell Ultimate Water conditioner which is an ammonia binder as well as a dechlorinator. You use the same dose for ammonia binding as you do for neutralizing chlorine. PLEASE NOTE. The new water HAS TO BE DECHLORINATED BEFORE YOU ADD TO POND OR TANK You need to read this article; https://hanoverkoifarms.com/water-changes-additions/. In the future please do not post questions here on Google. Instead use email to sales @hanoverkoifarms.com

We've lost six large koi the last 3 days that we've had since 2005! We are so upset as these are our pets. We cleaned our three filters on Sunday only to find them dieing. Any idea why? Could it be the hot weather, too much chlorine in the water?

You have my sympathy for your loss. We went through the same thing two summers ago and it hurts. We love our fish. A pet is a pet, fur or fin. Our issue was extreme heat and a blown breaker resulting in oxygen deprivation. We had a seperate electric line run that supports our pond only. We also installed 2 aerators that run off electric and a solar aerator. The folks at Hanover Koi are the best for helping you get to the bottom of what caused your loss. Again, my condolences on your loss.

We just recently had an explosion of toad mating and laying of strands of eggs. Will the Koi eat and become ill from ingesting these eggs? thx

Karen K Rock | Nov 7, 2018
Hanover Koi Farms | Nov 7, 2018

Hi...They most likely will not eat the eggs or the tadpoles, but you should test your water for ammonia and nitrite spikes from the eggs and eventually the hatching of the toads. Thx HKF
