WHC is definitely a blessing..they took me and my son in at my lowest point and helped me not only get back on feet but thrive when my time with them was up. I was able to go back to school and get an amazing job to be able to better not only my life but the life of my son who is the most important...without WHC idk if I'd be where I am today. Angie, Cheri and all the women involved are the reason this program is so inspirational. I have made met and made life long friends within this program. Although I met them at an extremely hard time in our lives I wouldn't trade it for anything. Thank you WHC so much for everything you all did and do for women. ❤️

I arrived in Albuquerque New Mexico in 2002. I came here to create my life for the first time free of drugs and alcohol. I came with my two sons who still lived with me. I had no job just an apartment which the rent had been payed for 3 months. Believing that employment would come. I struggled a lot and between pay checks usually had no money to speak of . I struggled with my sobriety at every turn wondering had I made a big mistake. Some where around 2005 my sponsor told me about the Womens Housing Coalition which helped women who would stick to the rules piece there lives back together despite current circumstances. It was a commitment I felt I could make because Somewhere in me - I wanted to succeed. And I wanted a chance to see who I could become. I kept my commitment and even ended up asking my son to move out because no matter what I told him he could not abide by the rules and threatened to get us kicked out of the program. Fast forward all these years and I am 18 yrs plus sober. My financial life has remained steady and vastly improved- I don’t have debt, my life has remained manageable. I am useful in many capacities including volunteering at the WHC whenever needed. It’s a program I believe in because I know it can work - If you decide you want it more than you want anything else. As a woman I find it invaluable as a tool. Sincerely Doreen Gonsalves
