Have only arrived at the airport, so no opinion on TSA check, shops, etc. (closed). The view while descending to McGhee Tyson Airport, however, is quite nice (stars toward the review)! Please keep the trees Knoxville because once development and concrete replace them, higher temperatures and a greater chance of drought will follow...

I love this airport. It is attractive, well staffed, and super easy to navigate. It offered a several dining choices for breakfast as well as lunch and dinner, a beautiful view from the rocking chairs and all of the gates are easily accessible. Also, I have found that the rates to fly out of Knoxville are extremely competitive. Often they are better than the rates I find at larger airports a couple of hours away.

Easy in and out airport- highly recommend to anyone living in the area looking to travel out. We use a combination of this, Chattanooga, Nashville, and Atlanta to get around the country for work and play

I spent more time in this airport than I expected, and can say it is not a bad airport to be stuck in. The staff was kind and helpful. Getting through security was fast and easy. Perhaps my favorite thing was the large screen showing a looped video about things to do and places to stay in Tennessee. Such a beautiful state that I would love to explore more. They also had fun decorations up, I am sure the Christmas tree is not there all the time, but I hope the bear statues and pretend stream are!

No trains. Airport consists of only 12 gates. As a matter of fact, there are no trains in the whole city :) From the ticket counters to the gates it may take a whole 7mins on a really good day if no long security line. However, TSA has been known to take 1.5 hrs a few times when they decide to implement a new security measure on a busy day with only a few TSA agents available. The golf carts are used to help disabled passengers up to the security Checkpoint. Another Cust Svc rep will wait with a wheelchair on the other side of security. You'll normally ask the ticket counter to call them for assistance.
YES. As you enter the airport, to the right before you enter the departures area, is a lot where Cass and others wait.
You can park in the Hilton's lot for free. The parking garage is $12 per day

How long should I get there ahead of time
No there is not . I'm sorry to say . once you go threw security you are done smoking , vaping,or smoking a pipe lol. I check in as early as possible and go outside in front of the airport with everyone else and vap until around 50 min left or I see a big bus come up , meaning security might be delayed . get to that gate 30 min before take off .
I usually arrive about 20 minutes before board time, but I also have TSA precheck. If you don't, I would suggest an additional 15-20 minutes.
