I believe rude would be a matter of perception. maybe if you were more elaborate about how he was rude to you I would be able to provide you with a better answer. but chances are maybe he had a bad day, or maybe on his way into work someone almost hit him in a motor vehicle, I noticed most people that aren't from that area drive through that area with their windows rolled up, looking scared, driving as fast as they can, so that's a plausible reason.
Try using the NYPL on line catalog... It shows what books you have out, what books you've placed a HOLD on as well as any fine you might have. It's also an easy way to renew a book you have checked out, free of charge, without a trip to the library!
Thereโs a community room where you can do this, as long as itโs not being used for a public program.
