What a life changing experience! Spent the day hiking up the switchbacks to Klahhane Ridge, through the sleet and wind and down to Lake Angeles where we set up camp for the evening. The sights and views from every angle are absolutely breathtaking. The fauna are certainly not frightened of human presence and stayed close by the two days we were at camp. The trail down was equally fascinating with thousands of examples of dozens of our local mushroom varieties gloriously popping through and lining the trail. It's not a beginning hike by any means, but the labor it takes getting there and out of there are well rewarded with the joy of the experience! Dress and prepare for wet and cold this time of year!

Great sreep hike. No views however you are climbing through very beautiful very tall trees. Crossed a couple pictureque creeks and afew gorgous moss carpeted areas. The lake is beautiful and has a number of flat camp sites.

Beautiful location. The lake was mostly frozen over when we visited in January, but the views were still awesome and there were plenty of places to sit by the water and take them in. Camping would still be doable with the snow, as long as you're prepared. The hike up to the lake is not too rough but doesn't have too many views along the way, until you actually reach the lake. I can imagine it's gorgeous during the summer as well.

This was one of my most memorable hikes this year. Lots of snow, walking on a frozen lake and hiking with good friends. I will definitely be back later in the summer and would recommend this hike to anyone

Yes around twelve dollars a day and anything that has wheels and you sleepingis considered an RV so you might need to get a permit.
Yes, it is about 3.7 miles, and 2500 ft elevation gain. In addition, you will need a onp wilderness permit and a bear can.
A bit of both. The campground is at the end of the trail. There is a campground close to the trail head called Heart of the Hills. The trail itself is only 3.7 miles but pretty steep elevation gain to get there. Beautiful lake though
It is a first come, first served. They have a QR code you can scan to pay for your site on your phone (I had a couple of bars of 4g ATT reception)
No.
Technically, you can park at Lake Angeles, Heather Park trailhead without an ONP Pass. Hiking up to Lake Angeles to Klahanne Ridge, then another say 5 miles to 5200 ft visitor center, call it 9-11 miles one-way Is free. If you want to stage a vehicle up there to ride down that vehicle has to pay. Round trip then +22 mile hike. (Later) As Avery said, check with ranger by phone. There are goat removal operations going on now so some of these trsils are closed thtu Oct 2018 ish
