Very happy with this company. High quality and well made bee house. Unfortunately it was damaged in transit, but the customer service was outstanding! Responded to me in less than 30 minutes with a replacement order already on the way. Shipment was fast and exactly what I ordered. Lots of great information and support on their website. I highly recommend ordering from Crown Bees!

I can't say enough good things about Crown Bees! Last year was my first attempt at raising bees and they were with me every step of the way. They even replaced my bees when I put them out too early, which was my mistake. They have answered my seemingly million questions and have been great! Not only did my veggie garden do so much better than previous years, but I was able to learn so much about these wonderful creatures who help to feed the world. I highly recommend Crown Bees for all your Mason/Leafcutter bees and their needs. Can't wait until this spring/summer growing season. It's all the "buzz".

My experience started 3 years ago. I learned about solitary bees at a garden club meeting. I contacted Crown Bees and purchased my first 20 Mason Bees. The email support was awesome! I asked several questions and was guided through my first season of Mason Bee keeping. This year I was excited to contribute back to Bee Buy Back in November. I harvested 375 cocoons. I kept 125 for this spring and am hopeful for another great season. My azaleas and dogwood trees have doubled in blooms since keeping bees. My part time interest has become my passion. I wish to share with anyone the amazing job a Mason Bee does in the short 6 weeks they are with us. Crown Bees has excellent customer service and products!

Crown Bees was one of the first companies that I came across when I "got into" raising these local lovelies! I highly recommend their products for being great quality. They are a little pricey, but I think you get what you pay for. Also, Crown Bees offers all kinds of educational videos and presentations, they send out a very informative (but not over the top) newsletter with tips and tricks, and they are clearly trying hard to promote the active care for these great bees! I wanted to raise my own hive of honey bees but I discovered that I just didn't have the time. Focusing my efforts on Mason bees and other native pollinators has required far less time but has been NO LESS educational or enjoyable. It's a real treat when a child comes over and gets to have one fly out to land on an arm or hand. Magical! If you, too, are a backyard naturalist, you absolutely NEED to raise local pollinators. And Crown Bees is a great source for products, bees, and information. I truly appreciate their support of these magnificent garden characters!

Questions & Answers

I found a wasp nest in my bee house when I went to put out my mason bees recently. I removed the nest but I see wasps flying around. what to do?

Social wasps are territorial and you can deter them with a fake wasp nest. Inflate a paper bag, cinch closed and hang under your eave near your bee house. You can also fill any large empty spaces with paper or sticks. If you can, next fall or winter it's a good idea to uninstall your bee house and store it in your garage to keep wasps away and extend the life of your bee house.

How do I keep birds from attacking the bee hive?

You can add hardwire cloth to the front of the bee house. Make sure it has 3/4" openings. You might also need to move bird feeders and birdhouses away from the bee house.

Can I overwinter mason bees in a Tupperware container which has a plastic tight lid?

I'm not the expert but I would say absolutely not. They need air
