I had a good experience here, the guy who helped me, George?, was wonderful and helpful. He answered all my Questions and was great with me daughter as well since we were stuck there for a bit I really appreciated that; the only recommendation I would make for here is for it to be more clean. The first thing I noticed was how dirty it was. Thanks!

First, I would like to say that I rarely write reviews. I always try to work with a business to give them an opportunity to make things right. However, I am out of patience with Pep Boys in Palatine. I had my oil changed in April. They were also supposed to do a tire rotation. The guy at the counter tried to sell me an additional $200 worth of things I did not need. I did agree to a new wiper, but they did not have one. I thought things were fine. The check engine light came on in September, so I took it to a repair shop. I received a call from the repair shop that in addition to the check engine light, I also had a missing lower engine cover, and all the screws used to attach it were also missing. I was told the part was $420, plus the screws and labor which totaled over $500. Pep Boys was the last place who serviced my car, and seeing that all the screws were also missing, it was apparent that Pep Boys forgot to replace the cover. Upon learning this, I called the Palatine Pep Boys and spoke with Tony, who said he would check into it. He called back and asked for my plate number so the part could be ordered. He said the part may take a while to come in and that I should call back in a few days. I called a few days later and Tony said he would call Barrington Ford and find out what happened. He stated that they get their Ford parts from that dealer. He did not call back. I went in person on Saturday asking what was happening with my car. I was told to wait. Then they put my car on the lift and the "mechanic" told me that he was ready to show me what was wrong, as I had requested. That must have been a communication issue because I never asked to see what was wrong. The "mechanic" proceeded to show me where the missing part should be and explained that it was not a safety issue, so I could drive the car with no problem. I then asked Tony when I could expect my part and Tony said that he would have to check with the supplier. I asked him if he was talking about Barrington Ford and he told me, "No." He said that the place was somewhere in Chicago, that they get all their Ford parts from Chicago. He said they did not get parts from Barrington Ford. OKAY, SO HE LIED! By this time, I realize nothing had ever been ordered and since I was told that there was no safety issue, they had no intention of correcting their negligence. Tony has not initiated a call to me, and he had the "mechanic" tell me that they made the mistake by forgetting to replace the part. So six weeks after saying that the part would be ordered, I have nothing. This was my first experience with Pep Boys. I honestly believe that I have been treated this way because I am a woman. There seems to be a stereotype that all women are ignorant about cars and they can be told anything. Women need to stay away from this place. I am now forced to file a small claims case with Pep Boys in Palatine. Tony had the opportunity to correct this at wholesale cost, but he chose to lie to me instead. Since I am now getting the parts replaced at retail by a certified mechanic, Pep Boys will now have to compensate me at retail price plus court costs. This course of action should not be necessary. I gave Tony six weeks to correct the negligence.
