There are so many things you can do at the library. The Sterling Heights library isn’t only about books, you can now check out a bike. Yes I said a bike isn’t bicycle! You can check out the bike for two hour Period. You must be 18 or have a parent or guardian with you. Available are two adult bikes and two children’s bikes. They have lots of fun programs just check out their schedule.

It's so nice to be able to go online to order books and then pick them up at this library. Also, someone in the children's section was particularly helpful in helping me find quite a few books that I was looking for.

Has always been a great library and keeps getting better.

Yes we do! We can also get audio books from other libraries in the area for you to pick up at the Sterling Heights Public Library. Please come in and check us out!
There is a restroom in the lobby.
Hi! The study rooms are not open yet. Once our renovation is completed we will open them up. We expect that in mid-August. Study rooms will be available for Sterling Heights residents with a two-hour time limit per day.
Hi Larry, Right now, the library is open until 8pm Monday through Thursday, but due to ongoing renovations and the pandemic, we don't have dedicated study locations available. We are using a grab-and-go policy, and patrons are only allowed in the building 1 hour at a time. We hope to be done with renovations on June 1. When that wraps, we will have study rooms available and other desks/seating for patron use. We may also have extended time allowances. We know that's over a month away, so we're sorry if that doesn't help you with exam studying at this time.
Yes, we are open Sundays from 1-5pm during the school year. The building is currently not open. We are providing curbside services. Beginning February 1st the building will be open to 25 people at a time with a limit of 1 hour per visit.
Hi Karen! The Friends of the Library's Used, but Sterling Bookstore is currently closed due to the Library's construction. They are planning to reopen in January 2021. They sell used books at reasonable prices. Please check back on the Library's website at www.shpl.net for updates in December.
Hi Cindy! We are currently under construction and are not able to take any donations. We hope to resume taking them in January 2021. Thank you for thinking of us! Tammy Turgeon Director
Hi Rose, I'm sorry for the very delayed response. I have been out ill and haven't kept on top of our Google messages. I checked the lost-and-found and didn't see anything. Were you able to get your project the next day? If you weren't, please give me a brief description of the project and where you were working on it.
We don't have a notary at our library, but nearby City Hall does! Head over to City Clerks Mon-Fri from 8:30am-5pm.
Mr. Lambert is correct. There are three items in our cooperative that can be sent to our library. You can do it through our online catalog at shpl.net or by calling us at 586-446-2665 and asking a librarian to place the order. Items usually arrive in 2-3 days. You can return them to our library too!
We do! For print items, we have several resources on the second floor in the 929s (you can ask a librarian to point you to the specific location). Some are available for checkout and others are reference items that need to stay in-house. Cardholders also have access to Ancestry Library Edition, which has access to—literally—billions of historical documents. You do have to be on site to use that resource, but feel free to ask a librarian how to get started. I hope this helps!
The library will be closed on Monday, January 21, 2019 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. They will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019 Source: https://www.sterling-heights.net/590/Library
The book drop was moved due to damage at its previous location by the roundabout. It’s new location can be driven up to as the area is a parking lot, not a street. Please use caution.
Hi Kathy, We checked with our Department of Public Works and the city does not recycle batteries. The landfills have been upgraded so it's safe to toss them in the garbage. If you're still wary, some stores (like Battery Giant) may take used batteries. I hope this helps!
Hi Kana! You need a driver's license or state ID that shows you live in Sterling Heights. If you live in Sterling Heights and don't have the required ID, please call the library and we can explain other options to show proof of residency. Our phone number is 586-446-2665.
We are open on Sundays between Labor Day and Memorial Day from 1-5 p.m.
Why aren't you open?
