This depends on what kind of job you have. For appearance-based jobs (models, movies, etc.), it is suggested to get the surgery done three months before you must be camera ready. If your job doesn’t require a lot of physical activity and you don’t mind being seen with bruising, returning a week after the surgery is usually okay. For physically demanding jobs, at least two weeks is recommended. if you cannot take two weeks from work and have a physically demanding job, ask to do something with desk work instead for a week or two. Dr. Walton’s office can assist you with selected work restriction requests for the post-operative recovery period.

With any surgery, there are risks. With nasal reconstruction, the most common risks are infection and residual nasal deformity. Other risks include failure of grafted tissues to “take” to the nasal site and this may require additional surgery to correct.

This varies widely depending on the complexity of the surgery. After the procedure, you should expect swelling, bruising, and some level of discomfort, although nasal surgery is generally not associated with excessive pain. You will be given instructions to sleep with your head elevated above the level of your heart for two weeks following surgery to minimize swelling. High fiber foods will prevent constipation, which causes strain. Smiling and laughing may hurt after the surgery. Dr. Walton will cover these issues in detail during your office visit.

The length of nasal reconstruction surgery can vary considerably depending on the severity of the deformity and the steps needed to complete the reconstruction. The shortest operations may last only 45 minutes, but some procedures can take up to several hours or longer. Some nasal deformities may require several operations staged several months apart. These reconstructions usually involve a complex transfer of tissues, bone or cartilage grafting, and remodeling of the tissues to achieve a final result.

For implant surgery, you can return to work after one month, though you may need to take an additional week of work off at the time of the second stage of a two-stage procedure. For flap procedures, you can return to work after six to eight weeks.

There are risks inherent to all surgical procedures. The risks for implant-based reconstruction are different from autologous tissue reconstruction. Common risks include bleeding, delayed healing, and infection. With flap surgery, it is possible that a loss of sensation, bulging, or hernia may occur at the abdominal donor site. Breast firmness may also occur with implants.

Following the procedure, standard bandages or gauze will be applied to the incisions. An elastic bandage or support bra will be placed over the breasts. You will then be provided with information on how to care for your breasts during the recovery process and what to do if you notice any issues. The swelling will decrease and the healing will progress over several weeks following the procedure. Follow up visits with Dr. Walton will be scheduled to assess your progress.

The length of the procedure depends on the type of reconstruction performed. Breast reconstruction can be performed immediately following the mastectomy, or months or years after the mastectomy. If you elect to have your breast reconstructed immediately following your mastectomy, the entire surgery could take up to seven hours. By itself, the reconstructive procedure can take anywhere from two to five hours depending on the type of reconstruction performed.

There are risks with any surgery and breast augmentation is no exception. Along with general surgical risks like a reaction to anesthesia, infection, or bleeding, potential risks of breast implant surgery include capsular contracture and implant leakage or rupture. Capsular contracture refers to tight scar tissue forming around the implants. Both complications may require revision breast surgery.

While the length of surgery depends on the implant type, incision location, and degree of enhancement, most breast surgery lasts one to two hours.

If you are physically active, you will be able to partake in physical activities several days after the injections.

You know yourself and your tolerance for discomfort. Discuss how much time you think you’ll need for recovery with Dr. Walton or the staff at Plastic Surgery Chicago. It may be necessary to take some time off work. We suggest a minimum of three days.

We utilize Juvederm Ultra XC because it is very safe and the complications are rare. Possible complications include under or overfilling, lumps, tenderness, bruising, or infection. Should you not like the result, the hyaluronic acid fillers are easily removed by injecting hyaluronidase, which is an enzyme that will break down the filler in a matter of days. Some mild but commonly reported side effects include: Bruising Redness Swelling Pain/Soreness Tenderness Itching – about 30% of patients Side effects should subside in about two weeks. Other rare side effects that occur in less than 2 percent of patients after Juvederm Ultra XC injections include hyperpigmentation and cold sore reactivation.

After the short, in-office procedure, you can expect some bruising and swelling of the lips. The filler causes some swelling that will last about 48 hours. In total, everything should settle in 7-10 days. You may have some mild bruising to conceal for a week or two after that. If you have important events within a month of the procedure, you may want to wait.

Dr. Walton will use a local anesthetic to numb the lips before the filler injections. That way, you will have little to no discomfort during the procedure. Lip augmentations are performed on an outpatient basis in the doctor’s office, meaning you will be sent home the same day. The process takes about 15 minutes. The results of lip augmentations using Juvederm Ultra XC will usually last about a year. It depends on the procedure you select and the amount of filler used in your procedure. Some people choose to reschedule their touch up before the filler completely wears off. Fat injections vary on how long they last. They can be a permanent solution for some individuals following 2-3 injections. The results will vary.

There are some things your Dr. Walton will ask you to do before you can undergo the surgery. For example, you may be asked to stop smoking for several weeks before the procedure. Dr. Walton may also ask that you avoid taking certain medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen and avoid drinking alcohol in the days leading up to surgery to minimize bleeding and bruising.

Most patients return to work about 10 days after the procedure. Some return sooner, and some return later. If you had an endoscopic procedure, you are likely to feel better within just a few days. Still, you should avoid heavy lifting and exercise for at least three weeks after the surgery.

As with any surgery, there are some side effects associated with the brow lift; however, the side effects tend to be minimal. Scarring and infection may occur, as can some loss of sensation at the site of the incision. Rarely, patients experience difficulty moving their eyebrows. There are also risks associated with anesthesia, loss of hair, facial asymmetry, and itching. Make sure to call Dr. Walton if you experience a high fever or excessive bleeding following surgery.

You should expect your forehead and brow to feel sore when you come out of surgery. You should keep your head elevated as much as possible post-surgery. Dr. Walton may give you some ointment to apply to the stitches and staples during the post-operative period. You likely will not be able to drive or stay home alone for two days following the surgery. About one week after the procedure, you will be asked to come in to have your stitches and staples removed. This is usually a pain-free process. You may also notice some bruising or swelling of the forehead and around the eyes following the brow and forehead lift procedures. This is normal.

The duration of the surgery itself depends on a few different factors, but it will not take longer than a few hours. First, it depends on the type of procedure Dr. Walton will be performing. It also depends on how many other procedures you are undergoing at the same time. Many patients prefer to combine the brow lift with a facelift or rhinoplasty to maximize the results. Once complete, the results of the brow lift can last up to 10 years.

Most patients are cleared to return to work within 10-14 days following a neck lift. Dr. Walton will determine when you are ready to resume all normal activities.

As with all procedures, there is a slight chance of risk involved, though it is very minimal. The risks associated with a neck lift are similar to those following other surgeries. The most common of these risks include hematoma (bleeding) and infection. Other risks are uncommon. They can include but are not limited to: Anesthesia complications Temporary or permanent hair loss along the incision Unfavorable scarring Prolonged swelling Irregularities and/or discoloration of the skin Complications arising from the sutures, such as surfacing through the skin, becoming visible, or causing irritation In rare cases, a nerve injury that could cause the lower lip to become weak Despite the list, complications from cosmetic surgery can in large part be prevented by following the physician’s orders during the recovery period and by attending the recommended follow-up appointments.

Each patient will be given clear instructions that will include how to properly care for the surgical site and drains, which medications to take, and any specific concerns to watch for in regards to the surgical site or general health of the patient. During the recovery period, Dr. Walton advises his patients to wear a compression garment for several days post-procedure. It is common for patients to experience mild discomfort in the days following the procedures, though this pain can be managed with prescribed pain medication. Also, temporary swelling and the possibility of some bruising is to be expected. Patients who undergo Botox injections will require minimal to no downtime, and those who receive liposuction or surgery should plan to spend about 1 week resting and healing. Most patients who undergo surgery are advised to stay home for at least 1 week following surgery and to avoid strenuous activity for at least 3 weeks. Light to moderate activity usually poses no risk.

As long as patients maintain their weight and avoid any extremes in weight gain, the results are usually long-lasting. On average, patients can expect the results of a well-performed neck lift to last between 7 and 10 years.

Eyelid surgery recovery varies by person, although most people are comfortable returning to work after 5 to 7 days.

As with any surgical procedure, there are risks with blepharoplasty. While serious complications are rare, there is a risk of dry eyes, infection, or a reaction to the anesthesia.

After surgery, you may experience slight bruising and swelling around the eyes as well as some discomfort that can be relieved with cool eye pads and over-the-counter pain medication. Bruising and swelling will subside on their own over the course of one to two weeks. You may use eye drops and dark sunglasses to combat dry eyes for two or three weeks after surgery.

In most cases, eyelid surgery takes two to three hours. The length of the procedure depends on the degree of aging, the cause of the puffiness or sagging eyelids, and whether the procedure is performed on the upper, lower, or both eyelids.

The typical recovery time for a facelift is two weeks, although some patients may feel up to returning to normal activity even sooner than that.

As with any major surgical procedure, facelifts carry some risks. The most common risk is bleeding. Other risks include nerve injury, hair loss, skin necrosis and infection. These occur infrequently. Follow up appointments are crucial to ensuring complications can be evaluated and addressed.

Facelift procedures typically last three to six hours, depending on the type of facelift and other ancillary procedures are being performed. The results typically last four to ten years and can vary according to certain intrinsic and extrinsic factors such as genetic aging, stress, illness, etc.

Swelling, and bruising are common side effects of a facelift. Pain is surprisingly minimal. Patients commonly experience tightness in the face for several months following the facelift procedure, especially if the SMAS and platysma tissues are treated. Expect to take it easy for 2-3 weeks after the procedure.
