This place saved my life! I stayed for the full 90 days. I felt so safe and at peace. Calm....something I hadn't felt in so long. Don't get me wrong, its not a cake-walk by any means. Its hard. A lot of emotions, ups and downs. Self dought. Starting over is hard. Starting over after nearly loosing everything including yourself is harder. But they have your back 24 hours a day. Someone is always there to talk. They will help get you the resources you need and point you in the direction you need to go. But you have to ask. And you have to put in the footwork. No ones going to do it for you. Take advantage of all of the resources they have available. I never knew that there was so much help out there. I'm just extremely greatful for places like the YWCA. Thank you so much for your help!!! It was nice to have my own private space to heal. I made sure that I left my room better then it was when I got there. I'm so thankful to have had their help. They gave me my life back.

In 1969 then in 1972 (ages 18 and 21) YWCA was for young women starting out on their own. I lived here, my first place on my own. They used a vintage switchboard phone system and would ring the floor when we received a call. One day from the library I discovered narrow a passage/stairway up to the attic and roof, kind of like a C. S. Lewis book. It was a cozy and homey place to live, simple and minimal.

They are so supportive and really help women and their kids get back in their feet.

As a volunteer of the RAGS Wearable Art Guild, I have watched the wonderful things this organization does for women and children. The RAGS Guild raises awareness and monies for the on going expense of the YWCA pierce county domestic violence prevention programs. This place changes lives.

Hi Mary! Thank you for thinking of us when looking to donate. We accept new, unused, unexpired items for donations. Since we are a 90 day stay shelter, we only accept full sized toiletries. Unfortunately, we do not have the space or staff to take and sort clothing donations. Instead, we partner with local nonprofits like HopeSparks to get vouchers for our clients to shop for clothing. You can see our whole donation needs and requirements on our website at https://www.ywcapiercecounty.org/donating-items
They do allow pets. And they help disabled.
They do not have control over parking. There is very limited parking on that street due to it being public for one, and the new low income apartments being built across the street from their building. My recommendation is to get there early so you have time to keep searching until a spot opens up. I know it's a pain, but its downtown, public parking for all businesses and apartments along that street, and there is nowhere to build a parking garage or lot.
It doesn't work that way. You have to do an intake over the phone and call everyday until they still you there's a spot for you to come live in. And actually I think they changed it to where you do intake over the phone and they'll call you when a spots open. Because they actually changed it after me being there for two weeks
Yes. On Monday's at 11 to 12:30. But you must call their main number and they will put you on a short wait list and do an intake by phone. It's a small group class.
Unfortunately we are not able to take furniture donations! We encourage you to check out Northwest Furniture Bank for furniture donations.
No im new to Lakewood I have no friends or family here to help me at all which is why I'm asking for any an every help I can get for the sake of my child. Plus my phone isn't on I gotta use wifi where I can get it.
You mean YMCA not YWCA
There is no longer a parking lot unfortunately. There are new low income apartments being built there now.
