From my first call to inquire about specialty care to the moment I left, I had an excellent experience! My yorkie is almost 16 and was diagnosed with possible heart disease his PCV. This needed to be confirmed by a cardiologist. I happen to mention this to a friend and was told that their experiences with specialty vets had been less than stellar over the years because they have "zero bedside manner." Mortified, I set out to find a doc. U of I was the first place I called and just based on the patience they had answering my questions about my concerns, potential treatments, and costs, I was sold! The only negative is that their appt wait times are insane. I made an appt. in early May for mid July (1st available). But that initial impression was so good, I was willing to wait (other places had similar wait times) and willing to make the two hour drive from Chicago. At the center, the treatment was the same. The receptionist, tech, and doctor were patient and friendly. I never met the doctor in person because we decided to grab lunch during the wait. It was quicker than we thought but the doctor called and asked if I wanted to talk via phone or wait to I got back to the office. Nervous. I told her to give me the news via phone. She spent almost 30 minutes on the phone with me! Can't say enough good things about this place. The bill was also slightly less than I expected. If I lived closer, this would definitely be a top vet option for me.

Witnessed a receptionist be absolutely vile to a man who came in to surrender his dog which needed a life saving surgery. He asked for the papers a doctor told him would be at the desk and she responded “We’ll they’re not up here.” And would not help until he kept pushing to get the papers. After he explained his situation she left in a huff to find them only to be gone for over 30 minutes. At this point the man just couldn’t wait anymore and left, but not even 5 minutes later she came back with someone who had the papers and said out loud “I guess he left! All well, not my problem!” How could a veterinary office employ someone so vile and uncompassionate??

They took great care of my rabbit. Although, after almost 3 hours with no update on his status, I began to worry if my rabbit was okay. This is something that needs to be improved.

Absolutely horrible. They canceled my dog and others dental surgeries the day before w/o any backup in July 2022 - The oral surgeon was sick and this huge facility had zero back up, while the other oral surgeon went on vacation! Nobody even called to reschedule. My dog was also misdiagnosed here and to cover up the inadequate care, they spun a bunch of untrue stories. Nobody has ever taken responsibility or called me back to make a complaint. Meanwhile, my dog suffered needlessly and was put on seizure meds & diagnosed incorrectly w/ focal seizures when all along it was exposed nerves in his teeth. You get what you pay for. Teaching schools are the last place you want to take your pet. IMO

Hound/Beagle mix, 3 years old. Changed his food to wheat free, lamb due to food allergies. Within the last 48 hours he has woke up in the middle of the night coughing really bad. Could this be a reaction to the food?

I have a very ill chihuahua but 3 Vets say he’s just fat. I’ve spent $10,500 in 2 yrs. Have receipts. The Vets won’t refer him. He’s 7 and will die if not treated, it may be to late now. Can I bring him to ER? I think Plural Effusion plus parasites.

Jennifer Mabry | Nov 1, 2021

You notice how they won’t give anyone any answers or even a lick of advice because they want to charge you $400 to walk through their doors. You’d think since it’s a school it would be cheaper they’ve got the U of I backing them. But they are money hungry.
