The AVL Lit Tour is great fun regardless of how well-versed you are about literature and writers. Jimmy and Sara infuse humor and Asheville trivia into their presentation so well that anyone with the slightest interest in writers and the stories behind those who write stories will be well-entertained and informed. Visitors to Asheville who wish to get the feel of this unique mountain town will definitely experience the full Asheville vibe—the buskers, the architecture, the delicious scents from an array of restaurants—it’s all there. As a local, I was pleasantly surprised to find that even when I smugly congratulated myself on thinking I knew all about a topic that our guides shared, they taught me something new! Every time! Genuinely entertaining!

The AVL Lit Tour covers dozens of authors with ties to Downtown Asheville. Among them, you’ll learn about Wilma Dykeman, John Ehle, F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, O. Henry, James Patterson, Carl Sandburg, and of course, Thomas Wolfe. New this season, we also cover H.P. Lovecraft's connection to Asheville!
AVL Lit Tours are around 90 minutes of casual walking, which amounts to about 24 blocks. This includes one or two moderate hills up and one staircase down.
AVL Lit Tours offer a 10% discount for private groups up to 6 people ($135) or a 20% discount for private groups up to 12 people ($240). To book a private group in season, simply choose the group option during checkout. Off season, contact us to book your group.
