I had my catalytic converter stolen on Friday. Don't scrap yards pay attention and get I.Ds. from anyone bringing in a catalyitic converter as wella s the dates? If not they should. Almost 100% of the time it is stolen.
I have a cast iron bathtub that weighs about 400 lbs is my guess. Do you guys take these?

They wont give that information out until they see it. Sometimes you can get a price if you have the catalytic converters serial number, on certain website's, but Metro Metals will tell you to bring it in for a price.
What precautions do you take to protect against buying stolen parts? I am a nearby resident who just had a catalytic converter stolen. Have you received any lately?

Depends on what kind, old sheet, aluminum cans, or extruded. Old sheet pays the least. I don't remember the exact price, but its around $.32-$.55 per pound depending on the type.
Anita is right, under 500lbs Metro will pay you $20/net ton under the scale price. Most other scrap yards will not accept amounts of material under 500lbs. You can find current pricing on the Metro website. www.metrometalsrecycling.com
