Questions & Answers

I live in Minneapolis MN. I have Hydrangeas in my garden and it’s more than 5 years old. I pruned the bush last late fall. I see hydrangeas blooming all around me but my plant has new leaves but no bloom. Did I do something wrong with pruning?

Good question. It's actually best to prune hydrangeas right after they're done blooming in July, no later. If you prune any later, you might remove new buds for next year. Don't worry, hydrangeas are hardy and will bounce back next year with lots of blooms if you stick to this schedule and don't cut them back after Aug. 1. Happy gardening!
