Words that come to mind when thinking of them, inconsistent, inconsiderate, unprofessional, extremely disorganized, untruthful, always extremely late. I decided to try horseback riding to gain a new skill, find a way to have some peace, and get consistent cardio/core work which would help me heal a long-standing injury. My doctor thought it was a good idea, and I was excited to start. From the beginning it was hard to get responses back in a reasonable time frame and when I was told something would be done (ex. someone calling me back, scheduling a session, showing up to lessons within 30min of the start time), it never was. That should’ve been my cue to cut ties, but I wanted to support a Black businesses and I was excited to learn. They picked a time and date to start bc my schedule is more flexible with advanced notice, and they set me up with an instructor that was late, rude, mean, impatient, and not good with people. The first time I had her was my birthday, so I was in a great mood. When I got there, James couldn’t find the initial paperwork I was meant to sign, he had to call the instructor to see if she was coming, and then paired me with a new employee that had no clue where anything was. I tried to be positive, but it was super annoying not being able to find the horse I was told to ride, not being able to find any of the gear needed to properly saddle the horse, not being able to find the brushes, or anything at all! It was, “I guess this is where it is, I THINK we can use this.” The new lady was great, but new and totally unfamiliar with the surroundings. She told me I’d see her in the future since she’d be working those times. I never saw her again- another red flag. The instructor FINALLY makes it, and she’s mad at the world. I spent much of the time trying to placate her so she would be in a better mood for MY lesson that she was almost an hour late for. Most of the riding lesson was cleaning/tacking the horse, and got on it for about 5-10 minutes. I enjoyed that portion. I just wish we had a full lesson. The next week it snowed Sunday and they cancelled Tuesday, and the following Tuesday it was too cold- they cancelled day of again. The instructor and I had our second session and they called day of to move it back a few hours. I told them no problem, then rearranged my day and was 15min late due to that. Despite what she put me through, she really took issue with that. She spent most of that time berating me and I told her I was done. Three people (including owner Paul) admitted she’s mean, so I’m not sure why they have her with new students- or any. The 2nd instructor canceled the day of, and didn’t show up the next week, so the owner stepped in. This was my best class, and I learned a lot. The last straw was when he scheduled me for a 1pm lesson, told me to come at 12:30 to tack up the horse (which the instructor is still supposed to help me with since I’d only been properly shown once), and showed up 1:15pm as I was walking out. I asked for my money back, he agreed. Enough was enough. No more wasted gas, time, or added anxiety. As of now, it’s been almost a week since I was assured the refund would be issued to me, and I have not received one penny. I reach out each day and I haven’t heard from the owner since last Wednesday when he asked my card info to be sure the money went to the right place. I called mult times Friday, was able to get through, and spoke to James who tried to tell me some story about having trouble with the refund, yet no one informed me until I called. When you talk to them they seem very apologetic and aware of their terrible customer service, then they disappear. I have to hound them to hear anything. It is a significant sum of money. They gave me zero option but to pay it immediately, yet they’re taking their sweet time now the shoe’s on the other foot. No one deserves this much stress and disrespect. Spare yourselves.
