what could be the issue. And if its the transmission how much for a semi-used one to replace. I'm on disability so can't afford much but would like to drive the jeep. It hasnt been driven since april or may of this year. I just paid to put on road

Transmission prices vary. I guess the real question would be why go through all the time of placing a vehicle on the road and spending that extra cash if that vehicle is not roadworthy at the time?. I myself would say it would be hard for me to put a used transmission into your vehicle and allow warranty with it so if anything happens after the Transmissions it's put in that would fall on me to replace it but it's not a new transmission so it's hard to tell. I would take the money from the new transmission and go buy a $400 beater and then while I drive my beating around I would save up the money because of the fixed income and use that to fix the Jeep and then after the cheapest fixed I would sell the $400 beater for more than what I bought it for.
