She was still alive. 3 search and rescue teams were sent on a body recovery mission once it was determined she was up there. If you just Google, lady with a cat found in the Gila Forest alive, it hit every major newspaper and the London daily mail.

Canyon was nice. Easy trail till the junction take the left up gallinas trail and you'll be rewarded. One of the closest hikes to Las Cruces that can be an overnighter or longer if you like.
