We were here April 2022 for a day trip... the campground itself looks neglected, but there are some still some nice areas where you can picnic beside the river. Very natural. The place looks so bushy and nobody seems to be taking care of it! We also saw a restroom, never take a look.. so we decided to get out of the campground and we found this spot down the hill where there is a beach and perfect to swim at that time (April) the water still cold.. but this one perfect, nice undeveloped area, I wish we could have stayed there longer! Camping is a maybe, I'm not sure if it's allowed there, but would be worth a try for free!

Tucked below the dam along the river, this campground is a narrow spit among acacias. I do not recommend going into this campground with a trailer. There are cement forest service picnic tables at each site, fire pits. The outhouses all seem to be reasonably maintained. Be aware that there is about 11+ miles of dirt road with heavy washboard for the entire trip. Your car will make it with careful driving but it won't be fun. In the winter, the dam will be low and mostly inactive. Fishing is still available at both the lake and the river.

The campground itself is fairly well laid out. There's about 10 or 12 campsites total. Each site has a fire ring and a nice concrete table. Had we been able to snag one of the three sites that aren't overgrown with ground cover, then this would've been a 5 star review. We had to trample down the high weeds to put our tent down. And we had to hand cut weeds to make walkways. Had we known, I would've brought a weedeater. The vault toilets are clean for vault toilets, but apparently it's a secret that you should put down the seat and prop open the doors, because no one else could figure it out. The lake is gorgeous. Too bad the only access from this side is the boat ramp. Which is fairly busy with people putting there boats in and taking them out. We found a spot past the turn to the campground, follow the road til you get to an open parking area. Take a minute to enjoy the dam and spill way. Then head down stream just a little ways and you'll find a sandy bank with lots of shade. You can walk out into the water for several yards. Everywhere else we found you had to jump in the river and scramble your way back up the bank.

A great place to take the family. I went with my mom and dad and can honestly say I had a great time. The only down fall of an almost perfect site was the thousands of fire ants that littered the camp site. Would say this spot is a 8/10.
