It was an amazing day. I'm 62 but I felt the child in me once I was here. Never thought I'd see these amazing creatures. The Rhino, the Giraffes, the lions, ostriches, zebras, and so many more... They also have A Reptile house. So many snake's... Gigantic turtle... I recommend this place. But is advise to go in the morning. I went in the middle of the day..it was hot..some were inside there cubby holes, keeping Kool.

Wonderful park! Loved walking the dogs on the walking path and enjoyed a very serene view. Our 4 year old also enjoyed the 2 different playground areas. Lots of space to roam and explore here.

Very nice and clean park. It also have 2 dog parks for either large and small dogs. Water park for the kids. Close proximity to the Abilene zoo and a softball field.. fishing is a popular pastime.

Hi Michael, The main walking trail is .97 miles. The walking trail around the dog park is .45 miles. The connecting trail between those two is .08 miles. All together one full wrap around these sections would be 1.5 miles.
The City Commission dedicated the land as park land in 1956 and was unofficially called airport park until 1959 when it was officially dedicated as Grover Nelson Park.

Hi Mindi, All parks and their subsequent pavilions are managed by the City of Abilene. You can call the Parks and Recreation Department at 325-676-6217 and speak with the front office about reservation opportunities.
