I am currently a patient in rehab for a broken ankle and dislocated hip. My care has been very good but there is a lot to be said about the food . wouldn't feed it to my dog.

My mother, has died while in the hospital on 6/2/2022. She was a patient in the Rehabilitation Facility of Church of Christ, from 5/10/2022-5/16/2022. She was admitted to Macomb McLaren on 5/16/2022 with severe dehydration, a sacral decubitus ulcer (bedsore) and a life threatening sodium level of 170. I have since learned she was not given any nutrutional subtance or fluids while at the rehabilitation facility. I was told it was because she refused. However she had dementia and with the dementia she was afraid they were trying to poison her. I, as her POA, was never notified until after she was admitted to the hospital that there was any concern in her medical condition. Prior to her admission her skin was intact. The decubitus ulcer was a result of her laying on her back after being medicated, regularly with morphine and ativan. I had discussed with the DON after her admission to the hospital, about her medications. She was not given her dementia medications "because she refused" as told to me by the DON. The law states "However, when a dementia patient's mental capacity is shown to be inadequate, they no longer have the right to accept or refuse medicl care." I am disappointed and frustrated a facility can blame a patient with dementia for not giving them basic life sustaining care and not notifying the family of her detriorating medical condition. Please consider this prior to choosing this facility for your loved one.

Both my Mother in Law and Mother have spent time at Church of Christ rehab center and our family has found the staff, the facility, the food, and the care to be very good. My Mother in Law suffered from brain aneurysm surgery and my 95 year old Mother suffered from a broken femur which was surgically repaired. I looked at (6) other facilities on the East side and Church of Christ was the only one that did not have the pungent odor of a typical senior care and rehab facility, it was the only care facility that allowed visitors to visit 24/7, and it was the only one that allowed the patients personal care givers or friends from home to stay with them any or all of the time. Unfortunately no Senior care/rehab facilities are perfect and, yes, sometimes it takes quite a while for a response when the call button is pressed, sometimes the food is not a warm as it should be when it is delivered to the room, but all in all when comparing Church of Christ to the other facilities in the area at same cost range, I believe C of C wins, hands down!!

Hi! The best idea is to go to the Nurses Station. Someone may know - or you may need help from someone in Maintenance :)
