They are bleeding the rural population of Greene County dry. They charge 8.4 cents per kWh, while Ameren charges just 3.3 cents per kWh. The excuse given to me by an employee was "It costs more to live in a rural area." But when I lived in rural Morgan County, I had Ameren and my bills never went over $250 (even when we ran out of propane and used electric space heaters to heat our 2,000 sqft home for a month). My LOWEST bill with Illinois Electric Co-Op was $234. That was in September and October without heat or air conditioning running. The residents here are paying more for their electricity than they are for their mortgage. My bill in the winter ranges from $650 to $850 a month for my 2,100 sqft ranch style home. My neighbor rents out an average size, double-wide trailer that is heated with propane. The electric bill is STILL around $500-600 a month. Illinois Electric Co-Op is taking advantage of the people of Greene County (and all counties they serve). But because they're not a public utility company, they get away with it. If you're buying a home in a rural area, make sure you're not being forced to get your electricity through one of these cooperatives throughout the state. Had I known, I wouldn't have bought this house. And now I can't sell it because of the insane electric bills.

Rates are average but they over charge you with delivery fees and minimum meter charges !! Internet is only available with line of sight from towers, doesn't help the rural community much at all.

Internet is super slow and there are ridiculous start up fees. But there are no other providers for this area so we have no choice.

Boil? IEC only facilitates the billing for the water company but doesn't provide the water. Does SMG provide the water?
