Vicky, who answers the phone at the front desk, is far from qualified to be working anywhere for the board of education. She will continue to hang up, states they make the policies but is unfamiliar with all of them and then will refuse to get you to her boss after multiple times of asking. This woman is an absolute joke and if she is a representative of this facility then it is obvious why they have a 1 star google review.

It will be nice if there’s someone actually pick up the phone

The Kindergarten age requirement of turning 5 on or before August 15 is set in state law, T.C.A. § 49-6-201. However, another law, T.C.A. § 49-6-3001(b)(2)(B), allows school districts some flexibility in allowing students who are close to the age cut-off to enroll in Kindergarten early: "Notwithstanding subdivision (b)(2)(A), if the director of schools finds through evaluation and testing, at the request of the parent or legal guardian, that a child who is five (5) years of age on or before September 30 is sufficiently mature emotionally and academically, then the child may be permitted to enter kindergarten". This option for early enrollment is completely under the jurisdiction of the school district. The State Board does not have authority over that process. https://www.tn.gov/sbe/about-us/frequently-asked-questions.html
The Tennessee General Assembly codified the Tennessee Teacher Bill of Rights in T.C.A. 49-5-2, which states that an educator has the right to "(3) Report any errant, offensive, or abusive content or behavior of students to school officials or appropriate agencies; (4) Provide students with a classroom and school in which the educators, students, the property of the educator and students, and peers will be safe; (5) Defend themselves and their students from physical violence or physical harm pursuant to § 49-6-4008." Educators should contact their school board attorney first regarding such issues. After which, they may contact the legal team at our partner agency, the Tennessee Department of Education.
