Gulf Coast Exotic Bird and Exotic Animal Sanctuary

I took my bird babies to this sanctuary because we moved around a lot and thought it would be a better place for them. Lavenia seemed to genuinely care about birds. I paid for their lifelong care, made hefty donations for aviaries, and only called once a month and visited every other month to check on my birds (I live far from the sanctuary). on one of my visits I noticed my parakeet was sick (neither she nor her staff had noticed) and I had to stay 2 extra days just to make sure she took him to the vet. then rather than take care of him like, through his sponsorship, I had paid her to do,she made me take him home that day. then I started to notice that she was doing things around the sanctuary that were not safe for the birds, and when I asked her about it she permanently banned me from the sanctuary. Since I'm not able to keep my birds, it feels as if she is holding them hostage. Lavenia Fernandez is also shady in her financial practices; we donated a large sum of money specifically because she said the sanctuary was in dire need of aviaries, yet for 2 years those aviaries were not built and Lavenia said she spent the money on "other needs" for the sanctuary. please, for the safety of your birds DO NOT PUT YOUR BIRDS IN GULF COAST EXOTIC BIRD SANCTUARY. ** This is the only way I can respond to your comment. ** Get over yourself, Lavenia. Why this review says 3 months old I have no clue because i posted it over 10 yrs ago. Where did you get this crazy revenge fantasy? All of my bad memories of you are in the past, in fact, you never cross my mind, only the birds do. So you can badmouth me all you want because i decided long ago that whatever karma gives you will be far worse than anything i could ever imagine. I just pray that my birds didn't suffer because of your feelings towards me. **4/17/2022 It took me 11months to notice, but the comment i was responding to was removed. I'm not surprised.

They care so much about these birds and are a great sanctuary for them. I hope to be able to sponsor a few guys since I grew up with exotic birds once I get my full time job after studies.

I have volunteered at the sanctuary no less than three days a week for the past four years. I, along with other volunteers provide fresh chop for the birds, wipe down perches, rake aviary floors, and regularly change toys in the large walk in flight enclosures. GCEBS and it's volunteers dedicate countless hours not only staying on top of the birds sanitation and dietary needs, but staying long after the chores are done to visit with the resident birds and ensure their social needs are meant as well.

Don't know what that person was thinking with her review. I have volunteered for years and never seen walmart Feed given to the birds. Everyone volunteering is asked to disinfect and clean both water and food dishes daily. All the animals are given both pelleted and seed mix, fresh veggies, fruit and nuts are offered as well. Most aviaries are outside with shelter from precipitation and secured against the cold in Winter. Yes more donations would enable more improvements and that would be welcomed. The birds and other animals are well cared for. Carefully observed for any health concerns and toys are replaced as often as we can with our limited number of volunteers. Our volunteer staff is small but dedicated.
