The hotel is old and is desperately in need of a complete renovation. The hallway had no air and creepy dim lighting. The room had paint peeling on the ceiling and random stains on the ceiling, walls and carpet. The tub had rust stains and the hot and cold water knobs were messed up. The grout in the bathroom was either dirty or moldy or both. The queen beds were more like full beds and not comfortable at all! However, the staff was friendly and there were not any bed bugs or any other bugs. If we had been staying longer than one night I would not of stayed!

This stay has been an absolute nightmare. I read reviews and they seemed to be split. I decided to be optimistic and give it a try. Don't waste your money! Upon arrival we noticed the carpet by our bathroom was drenched. I let the front desk know and they gave me towels as a remedy. The first night we got woke up at 3am for an hour due to the fire allarm going off, no one from the front desk came to let everyone know it was safe to go back in. People were slamming doors at all hours of the night. Earlier, my sister noticed smoke coming from an exterior light right outside our window and when she came to check it out she saw that the glass cover was broken. She let the front desk know and theh did eventually send maintenance out to fix it. He ended up removing the bulb with pliers all while the light was still turned on and a bottle of water in his other hand.. It's 4AM and I'm now hearing a shop vac vacuuming up what i can assume to be a leak somewhere. The exterior doors locks did not work and were left open the entire duration of our 4 day stay. The fitness room was closed, the computers in the office area were broken, there's chips of the ceiling and walls falling off. Their vending machine constantly took our money and gave us nothing. The breakfast was alright but seemed to be understaffed every time we went to eat. They need to get with the program!!

Pros: Fantastic location close to food and shopping; unbelievable selection for free breakfast (not just continental) that would cost a lot of money at a restaurant; good gym; small laundromat on site (this is a pay feature); great shower; tap water tastes good; free WIFI; TV seems to be a full cable lineup and not just basic stations like many hotels. The bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths were a good size (length and thickness) and were arranged nicely. The microwave and fridge worked well, and the desk space was a generous size. The lamps were neither too bright nor too dim. Cons: Room was a little dirty (sticky tabletops) and seemed a little run down (for example, a couple of the lampshades had heat burns from the lightbulbs, the two chairs were either stained or ripped); bathroom sink & toilet were very slow; outdated noisy in-room heat & a/c unit; bed coverings were a little thin (although adequate enough); room was somewhat humid. Overall, the hotel could use a little sprucing up but if you want to stay in Charlotte, this hotel wins overall for personality, amenability, and affordability. The cost to undertake an update would probably necessitate an increase in room price, so really it's all about balance. The front desk staff is very helpful and friendly, the "extras" make up for the deficiencies, and the location is unbeatable. I would definitely stay here again.

Negative: The hotel is run down and unsafe. All exterior doors remained unlocked on every floor at all times. Entire property is dimly lit, including the interior. Pretty sure we witnessed a drug deal in the parking lot. Never staying there again.
