I work in energy and know many people in the community so it was hard to decide who to use. However, Marty and his team made the process very easy. TruNorth Solar was responsive, spent time walking me through all of the questions, and let me know what to expect through the whole experience. During the install his team was clean, courteous, and very professional. They were also all a joy to talk to and work with. Given my interest in the process, they spent time talking to me about the work and the steps they were taking. I always was kept up to do date on what was happening. They got the panels in right when the snow was ready to melt so we could maximize our annual production. I would highly suggest Marty and the team at TruNorth.

We had a fantastic experience with TruNorth Solar. We gathered quotes from 3-4 different solar companies but found TruNorth to be the best intersection of price and quality compared to the other installers. We were impressed by their willingness to draft several different designs until we landed on one that would work best for our specific situation. The permitting and solar rewards program process wasn't as clear as I would have liked (signing lots of documents without too much information) but I think that is more due to our utility's process rather than TruNorth. In terms of the installation process, TruNorth was very accommodating as we had to keep adjusting the installation date due to the need to resolve some roofing issues first. During the install day, all of the staff on-site were willing to answer all of our questions and keep us informed of the progress. Overall, a great experience from start to end. Highly recommended!

This place is honest, friendly, professional, and hard-working. I have worked with several companies throughout the years on various projects, but this company for sure impressed me. Solar panels are a long-term financial investment and an immediate environmental investment. Below is a list of some items I learned and my opinions (in simple terms): 1. These are not cheap. However, if you cannot write a check for the amount, there is a nonprofit that will loan you the funds (just extends the 'break even' point). 2. The solar panels tie into "the grid" with the electric company. There is an option for the old-fashioned traditional battery, but you will find that is a far more expensive option up-front and in the long-run. 3. The electric company determines the limit of the solar panel system. Regardless of how many solar panels you want, the electric company will tell you what is "allowed." 4. Speaking of the electric company: they are my only complaint. There is a vague contract with them that gives them an easy out and the billing after solar panel activation was a rough break-in period. 5. Keep homeowner's insurance in mind. Some don't cover the solar panels, specifically, but they will add it as value to your home. TruNorth has a built-in warranty on their panel system. 6. Try not to get ahead of yourself when thinking about how you will get money back on the solar panels. The 'free electricity' is immediate. The 'incentive' with the electric company trickles in like it is barely noticeable (takes several years to get in full). The federal rebate is filed with income taxes. The electric company is obligated to pay you for electricity you don't use, but they only cut that check once a year with my company. 7. Once installed, there will be an option to use "SolarEdge Monitoring" to track the energy you produce (but not use) for no extra cost. I highly recommend doing this even if you are not a tech person. This will help you double-check your electric bill, see your environmental impact, and just to know they are working well. It requires wifi at home, but I unplug my internet router when I don't need it to save electricity and when I plug it back in it updates the information collected. 8. Many people I talk to seem to think of how long they will have their home to decide if they want solar panels. If we were to say that 10 years was the 'break even point' then people might not be sure if they will be in their home that long. 10 years is a long time for any life and life can change fast. My main motivation was the environment, but I'm not frivolous with money - it won't take much research to see that homes for sale with a solar panel system sell almost immediately for far more than asking price. 9. Lastly, be patient with the process once you get it started. There is quite a hurdle with the electric company. After that it comes down to scheduling. TruNorth won't let you down. Overall, I'm happy I have high-quality solar panels, I'm happy with every person I interacted with at TruNorth Solar, and I am keeping a close eye on my electric company.

Very happy with experience with TruNorth Solar. They did a good job scoping the system realistically, the energy production I am getting from the system is in general agreement with what they forecasted I would get. If you have a roof with good sunshine, I highly recommend contacting TruNorth to have them evaluate solar for your property. They are honest from start to finish and have a great quality product/service. I am both pleased with the financial result of installing the solar system and making a significant dent in our household carbon consumption.

How do solar panels work in the winter? Does the snow melt off? How about ice rain ?

Thank you for the question. Solar panels are typically oriented south, which catches a lot of sun and gently warms up the panels even in the winter time. While it depends on the pitch of the roof, we typically see snow come off of panels with in 1-3 days of sun in the winter time. Panels are made to withstand the elements of all weather conditions. Ice, rain, snow do not affect the panels, just the production. They are covered with tempered glass and are hail tested. We find that MN's weather conditions actually to a pretty good job of cleaning the panels as well. Hope this helps - Marty.
