It's a campground in a patch of forest (an oasis in the desert) with bathrooms and showers. Forrest and his wife live across the street (SR 24) and no longer run the little gift shop and office. Instead, call them from the pay phone on the desk (a free call, dial no area code), and you open the gate yourself and close it behind you. Then Forrest will come over on his little ATV and greet you with country hospitality. There is running water in the bathrooms in the office building, and it is nice to try to shower after a hike, etc. And flush toilets are welcome. However, every time I stay here (three times in two years), the bathrooms are dirty. The hand soap is powdered borax and is low/runs out. There was debris and splash stains in the urinals, and there were "other" stains in the toilet. The showerhead had a weak spray and was angled horizontally about 7' up at the other wall of the 2 'x 2' shower cubicle . Not to mention the 4" daddy long leg spider on the ceiling that kept coming over (and other bugs). I mean, I know it's a campground, but I like my showers and toilets to be functional. There is no website to speak of, and you have to call to make reservations (Forrest's wife answers with "hello?"), but this is a decent campground. The Capitol Reef campground in Fruita has running water and flush toilets, but no showers.

Great showers, clean bathrooms, wifi at the store. Forest was great. The tent camping spots were just a little small but it was fine.

Honestly I don't understand why this place doesn't have 5 stars. The owner (Forest) was very accommodating and quick to respond to anything we needed. The location is perfectly situated between Capitol Reef and Goblin Valley. The campsites themselves were nice. They had screening, a fire pit, and a picnic table. There is plenty of kindling and small pieces of wood for a fire around the campsites. Water is available at the main cabin area by the bathrooms. The bathrooms were very clean and offered a nice warm shower. You can buy ice (around $3) and firewood (around $4) from the check in area. It is cash only though. WiFi is available if you call and ask. The range and connection aren't perfect but enough to get by.

It's a great choice if you're looking for a remote, quiet area that is a dark sky location. The restrooms and showers were clean and nice. However, look elsewhere if you need cell or wifi service.

Gate is always up. They are always availabe by phone. There is a phone with information to call them. They are right across the road and come over imediately. We were there a few weeks ago and watched several folks just turn around and leave without calling. They are nice folks and very helpful. Just are a bit different in how they do business.
